I finally did it! I got to make a Treasury on Etsy. The theme for this one was Yellow Hearts. I named it A Sunny Kind Of Love. It is very fresh and bright. I added one of my pieces in hopes that it will reach the front page and more people would see my shop.
I have been trying to get more people in my shop and just plain aware of my presence online. Take a peek at my shop and my Treasury. I hope to be on time to make more of them because they are fun to plan out and put together. Tata
I posted about 100 rings for sale on the EGL Sales page and did very well. Most of the money from it will make up for the $180 I spent at the vets for my kitties check up and meds. If I can do about 10 more posts of rings and other jewelry on EGL I can pay off 1 of my credit cards and stop worrying about it.
I have jewelry making up a storm. I made about 10 new necklaces that are super cute. I really am into gold chains now instead of silver. Pink and gold just go together so nicely. They have a glow to them.
I have put them up for sale on Etsy for around $10 to $12 dollars a piece.
Here is the second of the Penny Arcade dresses. This one will be a bit more obvious in its inspiration. The Gabe character wears a yellow shirt with Pac-man eating a dot on it. The dress will be mostly yellow white black pleats along the bottom. I will include a small Pac-man on the skirt towards the bottom. Along with the dress I will be making an apron with the large Pac-man logo. The dress will be an under bust with embellishment on the torso.
I am really excited for this dress. It will be really fun to wear to the convention.
Every Sweet Lolita needs the right accessories and nothing is sweeter than a cake hat. A little slice of sweet heaven on a dainty saucer is too darling. I wore one to my works Christmas party and it got so much attention. Everybody smiled and their eyes lit up when they saw it. It made me really proud to have made something that made people happy.
In March my husband, his sister, her boyfriend, and I are going to the Penny Arcade Expo that is taking place in Boston. It is a convention that will last for a whole weekend that involves video games, comics, D&D (Dungeons & Dragons), comic books, cartoons, and all other geekery. I really want to make a showing so I am making 2 dresses that are themed to the two main characters of the comic. I will be making a dress inspired by Tycho and one by Gabe.
I have drawn up a rough sketch of the "Tycho" dress. It will be a JSK (jumper skirt) with a rounded lapel and several cute bows.
This dress is not all that out there so I might be able to wear this after the con. I will be posting the "Gabe" dress soon so hold on to your knickers.
I took my adorable new kitty (Eirwyn) to the vet for a general health check up. She is not very healthy as it turns out. She needs to have all of the back teeth taken out. She is 4 years old and lived on the mean streets before we adopted her. Not getting and proper nutrition and zero vet care, her teeth are rotting and very unhappy.
The vet did an estimate and the surgery will be between $1,100 to $1,400. So, it's just a little more debt that I need to pay off. Commence the sewing and jewelry making.
So, heres the deal. I am 26, married, and in massive debt. Not just a little debt that can be paid off with a few extra shifts at work but a real and very scary amount of money.
I went to The Art Institute of Philadelphia for 3 years and got my Bachelors in Fashion Design. I have always wanted to be a fashion designer since the age of 4 or so. My mother made me a hideous orange dress for my Barbie and gave it to me after 15 minutes of sewing. I knew immeiately that I could design and make dresses far beter than that and I did just that. I made oodles of Barbie dresses by hand for years. Soon Barbie dresses turned into Prom dresses in my teens and in my 20's, my own clothes.
After 3 years of school I gained the knowledge and the skills to make my own designs, illustrate them, drape and draft the patters, sew, and finish garments. Along with these skills and knowledge I also gained my debt. Living in Philadelphia meant I had lots of expenses so I have 2 credit cards that are maxed out.
Now it is one year later and I owe alot of money. I owe Visa, Amex, Sallie Mae (student Loans), and Dept. of Education Loans. My day job pays for gas in my car and my Sallie Mae student loans. I have been living like this for about 6 months. Something has to change.
This blog will track my debt, my designs (illustrated to completed), and possibly more. I don't want to live paycheck to paycheck and cringe everytime I think about money. I have the skills and passion to get my self out of debt so I just have to apply myslef.
I hope to post several sketches a week and complete one garment a week, along with jewely and accessories. Pictures, sketches, and thoughts will be posted i'm hopeing almost daily.
Thanks for reading and taking an interest.
A Sweet Lolita in Debt is about a Sweet Lolita who is in debt due to her student loans from going to school for Fashion Design. Here you will read about Lolita, my designs and accessories, perhaps a financial tip or two, and what ever else comes to mind.
